May 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Near the top of the list of direct-sales companies offering beauty products would have to be BeautiControl. The company's flashy website and promises of an amazing compensation plan and a Ford Mustang as a reward makes becoming a consultant all the more enticing.

Does it really live up to the hype?

A) 25 Years Of Sales

Founded in 1981 and based in Dallas, Texas, BeautiControl is celebrating 25 years of "empowering women to create lives they love." Most network marketing companies can't stay afloat for 10 years let alone 25, so this fact should tell you something about the solid foundation of the company.

There over 100,000 current BeautiControl consultants worldwide, yet another reason to feel safe in investing your time and energy into becoming a consultant. The company's long history of success has a bit do to with their compensation plan, so let's take a quick look at it.

B) It's Classified, I Could Tell You But Then I'd Have To Kill You

The BeautiControl compensation plan is one of the most closely guarded network marketing secrets I have ever come across. Their company website makes it strict policy not to reveal the compensation plan until you submit your information to be contacted by a consultant.

I don't like this policy as it forces you to be bombarded with sales tactics from consultants before you even have a chance to review how you'll be paid. Despite the lack of compensation plan on the website, I was able to locate some valuable information to help you.

The BeautiControl compensation plan is referred to as a Stairstep Breakaway Plan. This means that once you meet certain performance criteria within the company you can advance your rank and break away from your original sponsorship line. Your sponsor will still earn bonus overrides on your hard earned sales though.

Sadly enough this type of plan gives no incentive whatsoever to help those at the lower levels, as you don't want the lower levels to break away and become your direct competition. I recommend companies that give you 100% of the sale every time, from the very first sale.

C) Some Numbers For You

It will cost you $250 to join as a consultant - not bad to start but then they bombard you with products to buy once inside, this can get expensive
The product packages, on average, will cost you about $65-68 - the products themselves range from skincare to bath and body to beauty
Consultant product discounts vary depending on the size of the order, usually between 25-50%
Once you have 4 consultants under you in your downline you get 50% off all of the time and here is where you can sell to people for a greater profit
When your personal retail sales for the month amount to $450 or more you then get a 4% commission on your products sold that month (not bad)
Although there are over 100,000 BeautiControl consultants worldwide, very few of them are top earners, most are struggling to keep up. In order to really do well with this company you need to sell massive volumes of products, and as a result must really know how to market those products well.
