Thief River Falls - Minnesota - US

May 5, 2010 - PRLog -- William Durbin, author of numerous historical fiction books for juniors, visits Thief River Falls Thursday, May 6th as the fourth in a series of seven author visits during the Northwest Regional Library 2010 Spring Author Expos. Full details and media one-sheets are available at http://www.NWRLib.org.

"Durbin is one of today's masters of historical YA fiction,” claims David Gill, of The National Council of Teachers of English.

Durbin’s honors include a Great Lakes Book Award, Minnesota Book Award, Bank Street College Children's Book of the Year list, New York Library Books for the Teen Age list, Junior Library Guild Selection, Jefferson Cup Series of Note Award, Book Sense Pick of the Day, Boy's Life Magazine Serialization, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Award, Northeast Minnesota Book Award Finalist plus starred reviews in Publisher's Weekly, Kirkus, and Booklist.

The day begins at Franklin Middle School with an assembly of 190+ students learning how to research and incorporate Minnesota history into their own stories and plots.

At 5 PM, local authors are invited to a free Writer’s Workshop at the Thief River Falls Library on the topic, Writing for Children & Young Adults. During this session, attendees will learn how to narrow down a subject and then develop it with the detail required to make it into a book.

The public is welcome to meet Bill Durbin at the 7 PM program entitled, Truth in Historical Fiction. This program is ideal for children and adults as Durbin shares obscure stories about everyday people who make history come alive. The event and book signing to follow occur at the Thief River Falls Library.

The project was funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on 11/4/08 which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota's arts and cultural heritage. Sponsored by the NW Regional Library and hosted by the Red Lake Falls Public Library.
