There is More To Destin, Florida than Just Beaches

Just because there is a potential oil spill threat, doesn't mean you have to cancel your trip to Northwest Florida. Discover the beauty of Northwest Florida without visiting the beaches.

May 4, 2010 - PRLog -- All along the coast of Northwest Florida, businesses have been preparing themselves for what could be named the worst oil spill on record in the history of the United States.  Travelers that make their annual trip to Destin are concerned about the beaches, which are one of the main reasons they choose this area to vacation.  Social media websites such as Twitter showed a number of “tweets” from members that questioned a vacation in Northwest Florida vacation.  Here are a few we pulled…

Smilinzac21 tweets, “Sooo Wednesday I will know if I'm cancelling Destin due to oil spill! so I'm thinkin lake Travis for the fourth!!! holla!”

ProfessorWizard tweets, “It is DONE! Destin Beach House is canceled... Georgia Island House is booked! Sorry Destin.. see you again when the oil is gone!”

Even though Northwest Florida has a potential of oil slick, there are many great things to do in Destin that don’t involve a beach.  We met with Greg Fisher from TripShock! (http://www.tripshock.com) to get some information on what vacationers can do while in Destin if the oil makes an impact on the beaches.  Tripshock! is a local Destin company that helps travelers find things to do.  Here is what Greg had to say.

“Destin is a great city even without the beaches.  Most of you may roll your eyes at that statement, but it’s very true.  The staff at TripShock! has spent the past week compiling different itineraries for couples, families and groups that don’t involve getting in the ocean.  Some activities include parasailing, cooking classes, pottery painting, laser tag, museum tours, shopping, dinner cruises and more.  You can view the different itineraries we offer at  http://www.tripshock.com and they can be booked online or with our reservation staff.”

The biggest hurdle for businesses in Northwest Florida is convincing travelers that Destin is still safe to visit.  Local and State officials have not put any type of ban on traveling and they don’t’ plan on doing so.  That means that the area is still open for business and the Florida locals are asking you to not switch you plans.

Support Destin and the rest of Northwest Florida and come stay with us this summer!
