Scotland’s Leading Environmental Firm Celebrates 15 Years Of Change In Eco Attitudes

Ecolibrium, the Edinburgh based environmental agency celebrates 15 years in business and change of attitudes to eco friendly practices.

April 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Ecolibrium Ltd marks its 15th anniversary this year, having been at the forefront of a remarkable sea change in attitudes to the environment. During this time they have provided advice and solutions to around 270 public and private organisations in over 400 projects.

Since being founded in February 1995, Ecolibrium has seen some truly revolutionary changes in the environmental and financial landscapes that businesses must operate in.  The company has maintained its position at the leading edge of delivering optimum sustainable solutions to resolve now well-recognised resource and environmental problems.  Continued growth in all sectors is built upon the understanding and delivery of solutions that also maximise any associated economic or business benefits available.

Ecolibrium was founded at a time when environmental law was still very thin on the ground, there were no specific environmental regulators, and wider public concerns about the environment were only just starting to stir.  “Perhaps not the ideal climate to start offering environmental solutions to businesses...” said Derek Panton, a company founders and still a leader in the field, who has also acted for a number of government initiatives, currently including the flagship Envirowise initiative,  “Or, maybe we were just ahead of the game and could see a positive vision of the future”.

Even in 1995, the most forward thinking companies were already starting to realise that their future prosperity depended on their environmental performance. Ecolibrium's pioneering beginnings were consolidated and rewarded with risk management and pollution control projects for multinational oil and power companies, including BP.

In 1996, Ecolibrium made its breakthrough in the manufacturing sector, this time on the back of its ‘resource efficiency’ and ‘water management’ skills.  The healthcare product multinational, Johnson & Johnson, not only achieved full legal compliance (the project remit), but also saw significant ongoing cost savings from a systematic resource efficiency approach.

1998 saw Ecolibrium's first multinational site, one of Mitsubishi Electric’s, receive certification to the ISO 14001 Standard, as the most progressive companies took advantage of the new means to demonstrate improving environmental performance; realised as key to their future success. Ecolibrium then moved to its current central Edinburgh Office in 2000, with the opening of its North Scotland base in 2001 to service the growing whisky distilling, food and oil sector clients.

Derek added: “As a company, we have much to celebrate, and personally I would like to thank all the forward-looking companies which took time to understand the future challenges and the potential benefits of doing things a sustainable and more profitable way.  However our celebrations are tempered by the enormity of the environmental challenges society still faces.  Many companies have yet to realise that there is only one way to prosper without damaging the ability of future generations to survive on this small planet”.
