April 29, 2010 - PRLog -- MARIETTA, GA  -- Head Start Body Start National Center for Physical Development and Outdoor Play (HSBS) announced that Safeplay Systems has been selected as one of 31 playground and play space-related companies to be included on the 2010 HSBS Preferred Provider List (PPL).

A panel of early childhood movement professionals vetted the elite group of vendors. The companies selected as HSBS Preferred Providers will offer discounts and value-added packages of safe and developmentally appropriate products to recipients of the upcoming HSBS 2010 Play Space Grant Awards. This year, nearly $2 million in Play Space Grants will be awarded by HSBS to Head Start Centers across the country to improve outdoor play spaces.

According to Bob Gredys, President of Safeplay Systems, “We are pleased to have been chosen as a Head Start Body Start Preferred Provider for a second year. As a Preferred Provider in 2009 – the inaugural year of the HSBS program – Safeplay Systems was able to support Head Start programs across the country, helping them to create ‘green’ outdoor play spaces incorporating our EcoPlay Playgrounds play equipment. Being selected as a Preferred Provider for a second year, in 2010, allows us to continue our efforts and remain focused on our vision of healthy children living and playing on a healthy planet. ”

“Outdoor play is associated with greater amounts of physical activity in children, and research has shown that opportunities for whole body exercise has a long lasting influence as preschool physical activity tracks throughout childhood,” said HSBS Center Director, Karin H. Spencer, EdD. “Unfortunately children today spend less time playing outdoors than any previous generation,” added Spencer.  “We want to help the Head Start staff discover the benefits of outdoor play across developmental domains and learn about the features of high quality outdoor play spaces that promote movement opportunities for children of all ability levels.”

Safeplay Systems’ products and vision compliment the efforts of HSBS to promote healthy lifestyles. The 2010 HSBS Play Space Grant program, with its’ Preferred Provider List, allows both organizations to encourage children in the development of healthy habits they can carry with them throughout their lives.
