This summer London Docklands will be full of colourful flags and sounds of rhythmic drumming from teams of competing dragon boats. This year London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival will be held on 27th June 2010 Sunday.

Over 30 dragon boats are expected to compete in a day of racing in Docklands. Teams will race at least three times along a course of 200m. Boats with the fastest times go through to the final stages with Trophies awarded to the top three teams. For those not taking part in the races, there is a free programme of cultural performances, live music, food and children’s activities for all the family to enjoy. There will be live staged entertainment by Spectrum Radio throughout the day featuring Kung Fu performance, live music and lion dancing. There are also stalls for food and drinks, as well as cultural stalls such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese arts and crafts, games and company promotions. There are plenty of things for kids to do such as  ‘Bouncy Castle’ and ‘Chinese Face Painting’.

A Dragon Boat Photo Competition is again organised by the Singtao Newspaper on the day in which your favourite photos taken on the day can enter the competition to win prizes.

As well as the dragon boat racing, this festival raises money for five London Chinese community organisations. A return ticket to Hong Kong and various cash prizes are among the great prizes for the raffle tickets on sale on the day.

The London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is organised by the London Chinatown Lions Club, the London Chinatown Association and the Hong Kong Executives Club. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London is the principal sponsor of the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival 2009.
