Park Springs Members Hold Community Garage Sale to raise Funds for Employees
Park Springs held a Community Garage Sale to help raise money for the communities’ Employee Appreciation Fund.
Employees and Members had the opportunity to purchase various items including furniture, artwork, jewelry, computers, televisions and electronics. The event rose close to $5,000.
“There are several positive elements that come out of the Community Garage Sale,” said Park Springs Member, Dr. Dalton McGlamry, who volunteered his time at the garage sale for the fourth straight year. “Everyone on campus gets involved one way or another and this is a great way to help raise money for the Employees Appreciation Fund.”
Last year the community donated nearly $203,000 to employees. Last week’s community garage was just one of many fundraisers that occur at the Atlanta continuing care retirement community (CCRC) throughout the year. Park Springs Members raise money through various community fundraisers as well as through monetary donations.
Due to a no tip clause on campus, the fund came into being in 2005 because Members felt the need to reward employees throughout the year. Monetary donations are only distributed to hourly employees and payments depend on the longevity of the employee’s tenure and salary. Last year, the average payout was $685.81. The maximum payout was $1,260. Members distribute the money each year shortly before Thanksgiving at an Employee Appreciation luncheon.
Fundraising activities are one of many ways Park Springs Members are able to stay active in retirement. From artist’s workshops to ballroom dance and trivia night, every Member of Park Springs is able to find his or her identity.
