April 27, 2010 - PRLog -- SAVANNAH, GA. (April 27, 2010) – The Georgia Institute of Technology will hold its annual graduate recognition and awards ceremony for the Savannah campus today. Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and Doctoral candidates will be honored and inducted into the “Order of the Engineer.” Georgia Tech Savannah will be awarding degrees in the fields of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

WHAT/WHO:

Annual ceremony featuring guest speaker Jane C. Ammons, Ph.D., P.E., Associate Dean of Engineering for the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Ammons has provided national and international leadership and service on several boards and advisory panels.  Currently, she is the president of the Institute of Industrial Engineering (IIE).  She has chaired the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Advisory Committee and the U.S. NSF Advisory Committee for the Division of Design and Manufacturing.  Ammons has served as a member of the U.S. NSF Alan T. Waterman Award Committee to recognize the top young U.S. scientist/engineer.  In addition, she has been a consultant to the U.S. Army Science Board.  Ammons has authored or co-authored more than 90 professional publications and contributed to six books.  She has won many awards, including the WORMS Award for the Advancement of Women in the field of Operations Research and Management Science.

Howard J. Morrison, chairman emeritus for the Georgia Tech Savannah Advisory Board, will present the Howard J. and Mary Morrison Engineering Entrepreneurial Award to a Georgia Tech Savannah student that has contributed back to society through invention, ideology, and application. Frank T. Anderson, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Savannah, will present The Porter G. Pierpont Memorial Scholarship to a Georgia Tech Savannah student that has exemplified outstanding leadership qualities and high academic achievement.  New this year, Georgia Tech will be awarding Undergraduate and Graduate Student Leadership Awards to students who have made a lasting impact on the Savannah campus.
