Wind Farms for Toronto Island but Not Scarborough Bluffs

In keeping with their tradition the outgoing Mayors Executive Committee along with incumbent councillors all ignored Scientific Evidence of 'Wind Turbine Syndrome' and other health problems related to wind farms and failed to seek a moratorium.
April 27, 2010 - PRLog -- In keeping with their tradition the outgoing Mayors Executive Committee along with incumbent councillors all ignored Scientific Evidence of 'Wind Turbine Syndrome' and other health problems related to wind farms.

Wind farms, such as the one proposed for Scarborough Bluffs create “Low frequency noise can induce feelings of discomfort and nausea, not unlike seasickness. Like seasickness, the sensitivity of different individuals varies enormously, some being immediately sensitive, while others can barely detect anything” according to the renowned US Scientist Malcolm A. Swinbanks, PhD.

He points out further “It is important to emphasize that there does not yet appear to be a full understanding of how to assess low-frequency wind-turbine noise.”

“So it is difficult to understand how it can be argued emphatically that there is no problem, when it is clearly reported that significant ambiguity still remains in assessing these effects.”

“The purpose of this email is to make clear that a comprehensive understanding of wind-turbine noise and its effects was established by thorough NASA research, over 20 years ago. Contrary to suggestion, this is not new science.”

“The combination of wind-gradient amplification by up to 15dB, and the lowered (more sensitive) threshold of hearing for wind-turbine noise, substantially exacerbates the adverse effects of wind-farms placed too close to habitations. In this respect, problems such as those from the wind-farm recently established at Ubly [Michigan], are not unexpected."

The information available on the following sites examines the health impact on families when developers build wind turbines too close to their homes. There are several items available to download.

The papers consider the effects of wind turbine acoustics on health, e.g., sleep deprivation and related adverse effects. Evidence from research papers confirms that noise radiation delivered with specific character and dosage can trigger serious health problems. Please click on the links to download the papers:

Wind Turbines: Noise and Health

This paper, which examines the issue of possible adverse effects of wind turbines on health, presents the results of a preliminary community survey.

Noise Radiation from Wind Turbines Installed near Homes: Effects on Health
by BJ Frey, MA and PJ Hadden, BSc, FRICS
This paper not only reviews the acoustics of wind turbines and the adverse impact of noise on health, but also includes a discussion of human rights issues. In relation to the adverse health effects, the paper considers the basic violation of human rights, if Government puts more importance on achieving an ideological goal than safeguarding the basic human rights of its People.

Wind Turbine Syndrome: Important Clinical Research Report Dr Nina Pierpont's research details adverse health effects of wind turbine noise on those people who live near industrial wind turbines. My position that being of Peter CLARKE is wind farms should NEVER be installed along the Scarborough bluffs and we definitely need a more detailed and comprehensive science based study on all the known adverse health effects so we then can logically evaluate in a complete manner.

Incumbent councillor Baeremaeker it seems knows little about scientific evidence when he wrongfully stated that people’s fears "are simply wrong."

If these incumbent councillors with their left leaning ideologies truly wish to proceed with taxpayers funding for wind farms by pledging council "to promote and nurture" offshore windmills, then let’s put all such wind farms on the back side of Toronto Island where there is plenty of wind and no people.

Time Toronto Hydro also study whether there is enough wind to warrant placing wind turbines on Toronto Island which make a heck of a lot more sense than placing them along the Scarborough bluffs.

Just ask the people or better yet wait until October 25, 2010 to get the answer incumbent councillors.

Folks our incumbent councillors have been out of touch with common sense and scientific findings for the past 13 to 30 years.

Let’s just CHANGE them on October 25, 2010 for our continued good health and the common sense of the people.

Remember, Toronto is OUR CITY, YOUR VOTE and OUR FUTURE TOGETHER begins with your victory on October 25, 2010.
