April 26, 2010 - PRLog -- While over 32 million Americans suffer from some degree of hearing loss, only 24% wear hearing aids to correct the problem.  Many people are more concerned with their appearance and don’t want others to know they have a hearing problem.

Now there is a breakthrough technology called the “Lyric” that is changing the lives of those with this common disability.   Advanced Hearing Center, Albertson, is now one of only nine facilities on LI to be approved in fitting the world’s first and only invisible device that can be worn 24/7 for several months at a time.   The “Lyric” made by InSound Medical of California was released in May 2008 and featured on Good Morning America, The New York Times, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, etc.

Wrapped in a small layer of foam with a tiny speaker, this device is smaller than a dime  and can be worn at the gym, sleeping, showering and while using headphones or the telephone.   There are no batteries to change, maintenance needed or daily removal and insertion.  It comes with a magnet used to control the volume and turn it on and off.

It fits deep in the bony portion of the ear canal close to the eardrum so it can deliver the highest quality natural sound.  Thousands of “Lyric” users say that their hearing is close to what it was when they were young.

“We’re really excited to be offering this cutting edge technology that is revolutionizing hearing treatment,” says Dr. Amy Sapodin and Dr. Alison Hoffmann, audiologists and co-owners of Advanced Hearing Center.  “Because the “Lyric” is suitable for about 50% of those with mild to moderately-severe hearing loss, we will conduct free screenings to measure the size of the ear canal and determine whether the individual will be a good candidate.”

Dr. Sapodin and Dr. Hoffmann will offer the screenings from May 17th – May 27th.  Call 516-484-0811 for an appointment.  For those that decide to purchase the “Lyric”, they will be fitted in early June and given a 45 day free trial.

After a few months when the battery runs out, the patient will have the entire device replaced.  They will only pay for the device once a year, which will run about $ 3800 for both ears.  This covers the replacement aids and visits to the audiologist for one year.

Advanced Hearing Center diagnoses and treats hearing loss as well as performs hearing aid evaluations, testing, and maintenance and dispenses hearing aids, assistive listening devices, and custom ear molds.  Advanced Hearing Center has offices in Albertson and Floral Park, Queens.  They also offer a free guide to “Coping with Hearing Loss.”  For more information, call: 516-484-0811 or visit the website at www.ahearingcenter.com.
