April 24, 2010 - PRLog -- In honor of the shop’s official opening, Special Things at Lee’s will host metro Detroit’s largest housewarming party and donation drive, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 29. During the housewarming celebration, Habitat for Humanity Detroit and Habitat for Humanity Oakland County will have a truck onsite at Special Things to collect donations to benefit the non-profit organization in Detroit and Oakland County.

Items on Habitat ‘wish list’ include appliances; bathroom fixtures; bath tubs; shower enclosures; bath vanities; blinds, horizontal only (no vertical blinds); ceiling fans; upholstered furniture (couches, chairs, etc.) in good, clean useable condition; hardware for doors and cabinets; lighting products, chandeliers, lamps, fixtures; sinks; faucets; disposals; shutters; toilets; hand and power tools. A full list of items needed by the non-profit organization can be found by visiting www.metrorestores.org

“Traditionally, etiquette has dictated new homeowners invite family and friends to visit the new home. Very often, guests bring gifts to assist in furnishing that home,” said Special Things co-owner Gloria Colton.  “Partnering with an organization like Habitat for Humanity, which helps so many people achieve the dream of homeownership, will allow us to help new homeowners help make their house feel like a true home—by adding simple, special touches.”

In addition to the items on Habitat’s wish list, Special Things will also accept gently used home accents such as vases, decorative pillows and wall hangings for donation to metro Detroit non-profit organizations.

“It’s such an easy, yet powerful way to support the community,” said Solange Messelian, Special Things co-owner. “As you’re doing your spring cleaning, set aside your home décor and appliance items that you haven’t used in a while and on April 29, stop by and help make someone’s house a home.”

Special Things at Lee’s, located inside of Lee’s Specialty at 4076 West Maple Road, offers home accents and gifts, a bridal registry and professional interior design services and consultations. The shop carries individually selected home accents and gifts collected during travels around the globe by Special Things co-owners Solange Messelian and Gloria Colton. Colton provides interior design services for customizing homes and businesses through the shop.

Among the store’s eclectic inventory are tabletop and decorative accents, personalized giftware and oven-to-table ware. The shop carries home accessories such as pillows, throws, picture frames and accent tables. Michael Aram, known for his nickel serving pieces created with nature in mind, is just one of many designers whose products are represented at Special Things.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian-based, housing ministry that provides low-income, working families the opportunity to purchase modest, affordable housing in which to raise their families.

Light refreshments will be served and guests will have the opportunity to meet the co-owners of Special Things at Lee’s.  RSVPs are appreciated, but not required, and can be made by calling Marge at (248) 855-6777, ext. 135.

Based in Bloomfield Hills, Special Things at Lee’s features hand-selected home accents and elegant gifts collected during the global travels of boutique co-owners Solange Messelian and Gloria Colton.  Building upon Colton’s more than 30 years of interior design and architecture expertise, Messelian’s 25 years of experience with invitations and stationery and the women’s shared philosophy of making clients’ homes “outstanding with just the right, simple touches.”  Special Things offers private design consultations and design services for traditional to contemporary homes. Special Things at Lee’s is located at 4076 West Maple Road.  The boutique is open 9:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Saturday.
