April 22, 2010 - PRLog -- TDG Amendment 9 Published in Canada Gazette I
Transport Canada has published a proposed amendment to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDG) in Canada Gazette I. Amendment 9 is relatively short, but covers a number of topics:

Section 1.3.1 (a list of referenced standards) is updated with the inclusion of revised standards from the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB). CGSB-43.126 refers to repair, reconditioning and reuse of drums, while CGSB-43.147 applies to means of containment for rail transport. These standards were updated in 2008, so this will allow enforcement based on the most current versions.
CGSB-43.126 will include minor changes in testing and certification procedures for drums.
CGSB-43-147 will include new safety requirements and accident prevention measures for transport by rail cars, institute a change in maximum weight for tank cars that had previously been dealt with by permits, remove the adoption by reference of the commodity name marking requirements from the US regulations of 49 CFR, and change certain details of the inspection of venting devices for hydrogen peroxide cars.
Reference to the ICAO Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, and its supplement, has been updated to the 2009-2010 edition.
A new section, 5.9, will ban transport of dangerous goods using defective tankcars.
Section 5.12, which covers use of UN-specification packaging for small means of containment, has been updated to reflect the changes in the CGSB standards.
