By: Mark Biltz (Lahaina, Hawaii) David Spade, too young to be considered a legend but certainly considered by many to be on his way to becoming one, will perform his first ever concert on the island of Maui on Friday, April 30th, 2010, at The Maui Theatre, typically home to the production "Ulalena," a 680 seat venue on Front Street in Lahaina. The former "Saturday Night Live" star and current star of the hit CBS show "Rules of Engagement" will perform as part of The Maui Celebrity Series. The brainchild of crooner Brian Evans, who opens for the likes of Jay Leno and Joan Rivers, and who is currently working on his own major label debut which will feature a duet with Kelly Osbourne, Evans created the monthly "Maui Celebrity Series" in December of 2009. Each month Evans brings a different superstar to the island to perform on the west side of Maui. "Lahaina is a wonderful city that has needed something to bring attention back to the area, and this series does just that. The audiences not only help the theatre, but they help Front Street and the traffic is flowing," say Evans. Evans created the series with co-producer's Mark Biltz and Arman Zajic. The trio of producers are also in discussions to make the series a reality TV show which would follow them around while they put the show together, film the celebrities on an activity, and then air a part of the show. Evans co-wrote "Horrorscope" The Maui concert series began with William Shatner, and then was followed by performances by Roseanne Barr and Paul Rodriguez. "The line up for a 680 seat venue is amazing, and if we are successful in making the show a reality TV series, our 680 seat venue just became a 20 million seat venue," says Evans. The island of Maui is buzzing about the Spade performance, especially given Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston are on island filming a new movie. Comedian Nick Swardson is also co-starring in the film, and intends on performing as a special guest the evening of the concert. "If his filming schedule permits, I believe he intends on being there," says Evans. "He is a wonderful and talented individual, as I believe most of his fans are well aware." "We expect the concert to be star-studded, and that was the intent. We are bringing attention to a state that suffered dramatically due to the economy, and these celebrities recognize this. Their presence helps a state that has helped them throughout their entire careers," says Evans. The Governor of Hawaii agreed, and awarded the producers with commendations last month for creating the series when the state has been crunching numbers. "When the most press a state gets is a Tsunami warning, you know your in trouble," says Evans. "The series has been featured in everything from Forbes to USA Today, and is the most promoted event on the island if not the state," says co-producer Mark Biltz. And the sponsors are lining up. From T-Mobile to Enterprise Rent A Car, a series that started as just an idea to help a town is gaining international recognition. Following the Roseanne concert, her images on stage in Maui made it to Times Square in New York City. "This is no longer a local thing," says Evans. "When they are writing about the series in China, which they have been doing, you know we are doing something extraordinary," Evans music is heard on popular television programs including "So You Think You Can Dance," and the recent Molly Shannon film "The Wedding Weekend."
