More about the program:

First on the program, the virtuoso musicians of NYRO strut their stuff in Zoltán Kodály's extroverted Concerto for Orchestra. This rarely-heard masterpiece exudes the sheer joy and pleasure of making music and deserves to be heard more. We're thrilled to be able to share it with you.

Then, internationally-acclaimed soprano Jennifer Grimaldi, in her NYRO debut, brings her luminous voice to Richard Strauss' ravishing and valedictory Four Last Songs. Written at the very end of his long life, these songs transcend artifice and pretense and speak simply and directly from the composer's heart and go directly to the listener's heart. A magical work!

The program (and season) ends with the riotous sounds of Claude Debussy's groundbreaking score, La Mer (The Sea). Hailed since its premiere as one of the cornerstones of the orchestral repertoire, Debussy's immortal music still has the power to overwhelm us with its haunting evocation of the world around us.

In short, this program is the perfect "Grand Finale" to our wonderful season of great music!

Making her NYRO debut with this concert, we welcome soprano Jennifer Grimaldi.
