April 20, 2010 - PRLog -- “In pursuit of Blossoms,” a collection of vibrant Springtime watercolors by artist Judith Frost, will open at the Red Bluff Art Gallery on Friday, May 7th with a Reception for the artist from 5 to 8 p.m.

Local artists Frank Kitchen and Chuck Prudhomme will also be showing new work in exhibits opening the same night and running through the end of May.

Frost’s watercolors feature colorful butterflies, birds and blossoms.

“The series for this show is inspired by the beautiful creatures --Monarchs, hummingbirds, and other birds. Climate change and environmental problems has caused these creatures to be in jeopardy. If I can bring attention to their plight, I'll feel grateful,” says Frost.

The artist also has a “tasty” series of paintings featuring candy and fruit. She felt inspired to do the paintings based on the beauty of color, form, shapes, and shadows.

“ But there's a deception about this, too,” adds the artist. “ Do we gravitate toward what is sweet tasting or what is best for us health-wise? I grew up with grandparents that showered the expression of love in the form of deserts of ALL kinds. So naturally I gravitate toward deserts for comfort. So it was really fun to do these paintings. I hope everyone will enjoy viewing them.”

A live art demonstration will take place during the Opening Reception. Plein Air painter Chuck Prudhomme will create a portrait of art-photographer Frank Kitchen during the Opening Reception. The Prudhomme portrait will then take a place with a series of portraits of Kitchen done by other local artists and on display during the May exhibit.

Prudhomme opens his new exhibit, called “Breaking Light” the same night, while Frank Kitchen opens his new exhibit, “Half Blind”. Kitchen is an “art-photographer” with an extraordinary eye for details that most people miss. He specializes in portraits of Tehama County.

Blues singer and songwriter, Ira Walker, will be performing live on the stage at the Gallery during the Reception.

The Red Bluff Art Gallery is located at 601 Walnut Street (across from Wells Fargo Bank).  Food, drink and live music are featured at the First Friday Art Event every first Friday of the month. More information is available at www.RedBluffArtGallery.com or at 529-1332.
