New Greece Website Launched By PureTravel

April 20, 2010 - PRLog -- A new website has just been launched featuring Greece trips and tours. PureTravel is an adventure holiday website and is delighted to launch the new website section where all of the vacations come direct from Greek tour operators themselves.

Of all the destinations a traveler may set, one of the most intriguing is Greece. This small country is on the tip of the Balkan Peninsula, reaching out into the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, there are several islands, also a part of Greece, which surround this part of the peninsula. With its warm dry summers, and mild winters, there is no unfavorable time to take a Greece vacation. A good part of the land is mountainous, thus the majority of the population live in the coastal regions. From the earliest times, the sea has played an important role in the development of Greece, and today it boasts the longest coastline on the Mediterranean Sea.

Because Greece is a land steeped in history, there is a plethora of museums available to those vacationing in the country. One of the most interesting is the Anthropological Museum near the village of Petralona. It is here that items from the Petralona Cave are found, including ancient tools made from bone and stone. Another interesting fact is that one of the oldest signs of fire, from as much as one million years ago, was found here.

Museums are not only for adults. The Hellenic Children’s Museum, in the city of Athens, was built with the younger historians in mind. At this site, children are introduced to the many aspects of Greek history through the use of museum activities geared to their age, encouraging them to use their observational and experimental skills. This museum program is aimed towards children ages 4 to 12 years.

On the island of Lesvos there is one museum, the Natural History Museum of Lesvos’ Petrified Forest, which should be in everyone’s itinerary. Here, one can see plant life typical of that common to Greece today. However, there is also an exhibit of petrified tree stumps and root systems which were once living trees. A visitor can be in the present and the past at the same time.

As one can see, there are some very interesting museums available to all during a Greece vacation. The sites mentioned above show just a small part of the great history linked to this ancient country.
