April 18, 2010 - PRLog -- The Boston Marathon is an annual marathon hosted by the U.S. city of Boston, Massachusetts, on Patriots' Day, the third Monday of April. Begun in 1897 and inspired by the success of the first modern-day marathon competition in the 1896 Summer Olympics, the Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world's best-known road racing events. It is one of five World Marathon Majors.

Today, the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) manages this event. Amateur and professional runners from all over the world compete in the Boston Marathon each year, braving the hilly New England terrain and varying weather to take part in the race.

This year’s elite field will ensure a competitive and fast race. The 2009 running featured the closest women’s finish ever (and possible). Salina Kosgei of Ethopia out kicked her teammate Dire Tune to win by one second. Tune collapsed on the finish line and had to be taken to the hospital for dehydration. Both beat American Kara Goucher by nine seconds. Goucher will not run in 2010, but look for Mexico’s Maidai Perez, who had the fastest women’s qualifying time

Boston Marathon 2010 Guide has already posted a listing of street closings or road closures. The 26.22 mile long Boston Marathon will begin in Hopkinton, Massachusetts and finish in Boston.
