Renton, WA – April 12, 2010 – Enterprise Control Systems announced today the schedule for their 2010 Containerized Data Center Road Show Tour that will showcase a truly vendor neutral containerized data center.  The event, which will stop at major cities throughout the Western United States, will strive to show data center operators how they can improve energy efficiencies over traditional data center designs by deploying containerized data centers.

The event will include a tour of an actual containerized data center and will include informative sessions on the importance of Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and ways to improve overall PUE. PUE is a metric used to determine the energy efficiency of a data center. PUE is determined by dividing the amount of power entering a data center by the power used to run the computer infrastructure within it. PUE is therefore expressed as a ratio, with overall efficiency improving as the quotient decreases toward 1. PUE was created by members of the Green Grid, an industry group focused on data center energy efficiency.

In traditional data centers as much as 50% of the energy utilization is from the power and cooling infrastructure. “Today’s data centers fill a large room with cool air and are very inefficient” says Kevin Baldwin, President of Enterprise Control Systems. “It’s like bringing home a gallon of milk, setting it on the kitchen table, then cranking up the air conditioner to keep it cool. Or you can simply put the milk in the refrigerator and save a ton of money. In the case of data center design, the container is the refrigerator”.

The event will also provide information on other compelling reasons to consider a containerized data center. “While improving a data center’s energy efficiencies is an excellent reason to consider a containerized data center, it is certainly not the only reason. Containerized data centers are a very flexible alternative and can be deployed much faster and save on both capital and operating expenses when compared to a traditional data center”, comments Baldwin.
