April 13, 2010 - PRLog -- The conference scheduled for mid-April is aimed, CIG has learned, at building on the goals of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas, a cooperation launched by Barack Obama and other leaders just over a year ago.

"We are looking for action, not just talk," the U.S. assistant energy secretary was recently quoted as saying.

It is believed that the conference is likely to focus on the development of renewable energy, the promotion of energy efficiency, the fight on energy poverty and the development of cleaner fossil fuels, CIG sources indicate.

The assistant energy secretary also pointed out that over 34 million people in the Western Hemisphere still live without access to electricity in their homes.

The rapidly expanding Mexican wind power sector as well as Chile’s solar power industry are an indication of the success of Western Hemisphere alternative energy drives.

CIG has learned that out of a total 34 countries invited to the talks, 31 have agreed to send delegates, with Cuba being the only nation excluded from the talks.

Key speakers at the conference, which is mostly closed to the press and public, include U.S. Energy Secretary Stephen Chu, U.S. Secretary of State of Hillary Clinton and energy ministers from Argentina, Brazil and Mexico.
