Anastasia Blackwell explodes onto literary scene with debut novel, “The House on Black Lake”

After years of stealthily scaling the bastions, author Anastasia Blackwell is poised to make an explosive entrance into the publisher’s domain. And the old guard in the revered towers best take notice.

April 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Armed with more than a pen or computer keys, Anastasia carries the weapons of innovative literary marketing and a passion that is driving her to unearth new ways for creativity to launch, feed and strengthen the power of the word.

Years before her book was completed she began an assault.

Informed by writing experts that she would spend years sending queries to disinterested publishers, face constant rejection, and if signed expect to front her own promotion, she decided to forge another route to reach her goal of successful publication. She was a single mother raising two sons, but that did not deter her from her mission.

FIVE YEARS before the launch of her book, she conducted extensive research into the subjects that fed the themes of her book, including secret societies, underground wisdom, and corruption in societal institutions. She was instructed by some of the finest names in literary writing, including legendary writer’s guru, Robert McGee. A rough first draft was finished in six weeks, yet the story and author would need much more time to mature.

THREE YEARS before launch Anastasia began training on the flying trapeze at Trapeze Arts in Oakland, California, to overcome her fears, strengthen and test resolve and learn to break through boundaries. She wished to fly through the air with unbridled passion and determination and bring that joy and commitment to her pursuits.

TWO YEARS before launch she purchased a booth at Book Expo, and displayed promotional information for her book. She designed and marketed a clothing line based on the French Gypsy look of the book including, jewelry, accessories, candles and neo romantic clothing. That same year she designed a website with Bradley Charbonneau of Likoma and worked with development editor Adam Marsh, formerly of Reese Halsey North Literary Agency, to refine story line.

ONE YEAR before launch, Anastasia collaborated with esteemed indie film maker Frazer Bradshaw to produce a trailer of the book. She scouted and booked locations in the historic Chateau Tivoli B& B, Golden Gate Park, and Stern grove in San Francisco, and hired rising talents, Tosh Yanez, Morla Gorrondona, Wade Russell and Benny Duskin to portray characters. Anastasia wrote script, acted, directed in association with Isaac Ebersole, co-edited with Jesse Spencer and provided voice-over. David Wilson’s evocative photographs of scenes taken during filming furthered promotion. Musician, composer Peter Busboom joined team post production to provide an original score for trailer. There was little time or money, but an enormous amount of commitment and passion were lent by numerous artists who gave heart and soul to project.

That same year Anastasia created WAM JAMS! Writers, artists and musicians collaborating to create new forms of art. The group continues with 250 members, monthly jams, and scores of new works currently being developed by members.

SIX MONTHS before launch, she worked with Robert Aulicino, formerly of Random House, to create internal and external design of book, tagging an unconventional series of photographs from trailer at end of book. In addition, Maggie Deslaurier, proof reader, and Martha Holmes, copy editor, helped to clean up last draft.

THREE MONTHS before launch she created music videos combining slide show of evocative photographs with music of Peter Busboom. The first was a haunting guitar solo with romantic pictures taken in the Mark Twain room of the Chateau Tivoli, featuring Anastasia and superstar model Tosh Yanez. The second video was a ground breaking fusion of electronic music, spoken word and visuals leading to chilling climax of book.

TWO MONTHS before release she launched videos on prominent sites on the internet and added an original contemporary gothic jewelry line to website.

ONE MONTH before launch she met with promoters at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco to plan a “dark romance” themed book launching party.

TWO WEEKS before launch Anastasia met again with Frazer Bradshaw to consider concept of an original series of webisodes for author to discuss themes of book and the process of writing, marketing and promotion.

On March 29, 2010 “The House on Black Lake” was released by Creative Revolution Productions.  It is available on-line through most book distributors. Plans are to have the novel available in book stores around the world by the end of the year, as well as securing film rights.

Anastasia Blackwell’s novel has been launched, but this is only the beginning of her journey. The former award winning producer for a major network affiliate, actress, voice-over artist, flying trapeze aficionado and single mother of two teenage sons is committed to finding unique and visionary ways for artists work to be recognized and every individual’s voice to be heard.
