April 9, 2010 - PRLog -- Anderson Plumbing Heating and Air debuted a new music video on YouTube
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2DyG3Uz4C4)  called “Pull ‘em Up Rap Video … Don’t Hire a Plumber with His Pants Hanging Down” on March 31.  Written and produced by Kyle Anderson, a master plumber and son of company president Mary Jean Anderson, the video is a parody of the American Idol sensation “Pants on the Ground” and contrasts the sloppy image of some plumbing companies with the professionalism of Anderson Plumbing Heating and Air.

“Ever since I entered the plumbing industry years ago, I’ve felt that plumbers have not received the respect that they deserve”, said Mary Jean Anderson, owner of Anderson Plumbing Heating and Air.

We decided to use internet technology to get the point across.  “I wanted to do it in a fun way” said Anderson, but at the same time drive home a serious point.
“I’ve worked in two very different professions in my life time.  Prior to owning Anderson Plumbing Heating and Air, I was a nurse.”  Anderson said, “What has continually struck me over the last 30 years is the difference in respect given to the medical profession versus what plumbers generally receive.

Anderson contends that when you compare the professions there are more similarities than the most people realize.  For example, to become a Master Plumber, one of the top achievement in the plumbing industry, takes 8 to 10 years.  To become a doctor takes about the same amount of time.  Granted…maybe it is a different type of learning process…but both are important in preserving good health.

In ancient Greece the plumber’s profession was regarded more highly that that of government officials.  The importance of the role plumbers played in keeping people alive by bring water to them and by carrying away hazardous waste products was understood and glorified, not denigrated.  The Plumber’s Creed states it beautifully saying: “The Plumbers Creed is to protect the health and safety of a greater nation so that all people will be able to enjoy the benefits of what plumbers do without worry.”

Just like in the health industry, there are generalists and specialist in the plumbing industry.  And just like in medicine, training to be a specialist in the plumbing industry takes years of study to become highly proficient.

“The point is” said Mary Jean, “I want our people to be proud of their chosen profession.  Unfortunately there are people in our industry that don’t take it seriously, present a slovenly image, and quite frankly foster “the butt-crack plumber” image stereotype.
Our “Pull ‘em Up” video takeoff  on the American Idol phenomenon “Pants on the Ground” pokes fun at that unattractive but humorous image and at the same time lets people know there are true professionals in this industry.

You have to be intelligent to be a good plumber.  The variety of knowledge, the variety of solutions and the ever changing technology make it a necessity.

“As I mentioned before”, said Mary Jean, “I want our people and other professionals like them to be proud of what they do and proud of who they are.

And it never hurts to have a little fun along the way…
