April 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Following concerns raised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) about the unsafe work being carried out at numerous construction sites, First Response are pleased to announce that they are running an IOSH Managing Safely in Construction training programme.

First Response added the IOSH-accredited course to their range back in March and have recently announced that they will be delivering an open training event near their head offices in Pershore, Worcestershire, this summer.

IOSH are the world’s largest professional health and safety organisation and their specially tailored 4-day course, IOSH Managing Safely in Construction, teaches senior site staff how to manage efficiently in compliance with their company safety policy and current health and safety legislation.

Construction site safety is a major cause for concern at the moment, as the HSE recently announced that 1 in 4 construction sites inspected during the month of March failed safety checks.

Inspectors made unannounced visits to 2,014 construction sites and a total of 2,414 contractors as part of an intensive nationwide inspection campaign. They had to issue 691 improvement notices at 470 of the sites and were even forced to order work to stop immediately in 359 instances.

The HSE campaign is designed to reduce death and injury rates in the construction trade. Construction remains one of Britain’s most dangerous industries with 53 deaths and over 11,000 injuries recorded last year. This month of intensive inspections is almost a repeat of a 2009 initiative carried out by the HSE, which saw them issuing improvement notices at a similar rate.

Perry Leeks, Operations Director at First Response, says: “Good training is essential for creating a safe working environment and this is especially true in the construction industry where the risk level is high and, if you’re not careful, accidents can be common. The IOSH course aims to give managers the knowledge and skills necessary to enable them to recognise the hazards likely to be present in the construction industry and also teaches them the actions needed to control and manage risk.”

Our open course will run on the 16th, 17th, 22nd and 23rd June 2010 at the Angel Inn Hotel, High Street, Pershore. The training will run from 9.30am until 4.30pm each day and course cost includes IOSH course materials, IOSH certificate and a buffet lunch. Accommodation for delegates is available at The Angel Inn Hotel from £55 per room including breakfast.
