CLOTH. For the World. By the World.

Introducing CLOTH, socially sustainable, globally inspired and street ready.
By: CLOTH

April 7, 2010 - PRLog -- (Portland, OR/Chicago, IL) - CLOTH is a contemporary lifestyle brand created to confront cultural divides in the United States while successfully aligning style, social change and sustainability. Produced in the USA by displaced women from all over the world, your hood included, means no outsourcing or exploitation. At CLOTH we design for the visionaries of the world, the ones who make statements in everything they do, say, and wear.

CLOTH was born out of extensive dreaming, a global recession and a ten year friendship between founders Oona Mitchell and Candance Patel, both 22. Their inaugural collection of accessories make a bold statement, on you and the world. Acknowledging a mass shift in the American spirit, CLOTH went against business as usual to create a revolutionary business model. With the concept “business partners not charity cases” in mind, the CLOTH 50/50 Model ensures that half of our bottom line returns to displaced communities to provide employment, finance micro-loans, create community programs and change lives.

The Spring 2010 collection is produced by displaced women from Somalia, Afghanistan, Togo and the United States. It consists of scarves, bangles and necklaces inspired by the many countries Oona and Candance visited prior to launching the brand. Ikat from South East Asia, bold prints hailing from West Africa mixed with natural fibers and colors inspired by their serene upbringing in Northern Wisconsin. With prices ranging from $15.00 for bangles and $40-100.00 for scarves and necklaces, CLOTH is accessible to everyone. CLOTH is available at select boutiques nationwide and online at www.ourCLOTHshop.com beginning April 1st.

What does it mean to be displaced? Throughout the world there are over 100 million refugees and internally displaced people, over 4 million in the United States alone. Three million of those are refugees who’ve been relocated to America having escaped; war, poverty, political/religious persecution or famine. An estimated one million are internally displaced meaning Americans that have lost their homes and livelihood because of gentrification, poverty, natural disaster or domestic abuse. With so many people, stories, cultures and religions CLOTH has an endless amount of inspiration and motivation.
