The $8000 tax credit has been extended. But you must have a signed contract before the end of April. This is a true tax credit and does not have to be paid back as long as you reside in the home for 3 years. Current home owners may also be eligible for a $6500 tax credit.

Income limit Married $225000 per year

Not a deduction in the price of the home but a true tax reduction.

First time buyer is one who has not owned property in the past 3 years.

Current home owner must have lived in their home for 5 of the past 8 years.
