Follow on Google News | Night Publishing sponsors 'The Writing On The Wall Exhibition' at the Hull Truck TheatreA major exhibition of eight popular local writers in a region not traditionally associated with the arts is to be held in the Upper Foyer of the Hull Truck Theatre from Wednesday 7th April to Tuesday 1st June 2010
By: Night Publishing However, two men have fundamentally changed all that. When Philip Larkin, one of Britiain's most celebrated poets, arrived in Hull during the 1970s, he proceeded to nurture a whole group of outstanding poets who eventually appeared in the 'A Rumoured City' collection. Equally, on the dramatic side, John Godber started writing plays which were described as "single-handedly turning theatre into a physical contact sport." John Godber's inititiative has been so successful that his original Hull Truck theatre has been replaced by a prestigious new £24 million complex. Today there are somewhere near 100 published writers (authors, novelists, poets, dramatists and journalists) Therefore it is fitting that John Godber's Hull Truck Theatre will be showcasing eight Hull writers between April 7 and June 1, in an event sponsored by Night Publishing which promotes the publication in paperback of great books regardless of commercial opportunity and its sister organisation The A63 Revisited which identifies, showcases and promotes artists associated with the Hull & East Riding region. The writers to be profiled are: The crime writer Nick Quantrill who is enjoying a meteoric rise with the publication of his new private eye tale set in Hull, 'Broken Dreams'; Top British poet, Ian Parks, once described as "the greatest love poet of his generation", presenting his new collection 'LOVE POEMS'; The much-acclaimed young poetess and novelist Holly Roach, with her first collection of love poems 'Plans To Change and Other Fables'; Richard Sutherland (who has organised the exhibition) with his thought-provoking and zany collection of short stories and poems 'The Unitary Authority of Ersatz'; Tearaway gangster novelist Danny Birch - "one of the first novelists of the Facebook / Twitter generation" - following up his smash hit 'Clipped' with a tale of betrayal and revenge set in Iraq and Hull, 'Get Some'; Debut novelist Bruce Essar with his brand new 'Lockerbie's Deception' in a tale woven around al Qa'eda and the international kidnapping racket; Linda Acaster, a member of the highly successful Hornsea Writers Group, with her enthusiastically reviewed magical thriller 'Torc of Moonlight'; Popular local novelist and short story writer Michael Rouse-Deane, presenting his new novel 'Last'; Prolific, and elusive, Hull novelist Robert Adams with his blood-curdling murder mystery 'Antman' ; And finally, Tim Roux who completes a series of four Hull-based novels with 'Missio', the story of a boy whose father drowned when the 'unsinkable' Hull trawler The Gaul disappeared under mysterious circumstances in 1974. The exhibition will take place Wednesday 7th April - Tuesday 1st June 2010 in the Upper Foyer of the Hull Truck Theatre: 50 Ferensway, Hull.
