First, speak to the coaches and tell them why you want to play for the college team. Express to them your dedication to basketball and how motivated you are to be on a winning team. Second, talk to your high school basketball coach and see if he can mention to the college coaches what a valuable player you are.

Third, practice as much as you can for the try outs. Remember that dribbling is fundamental to basketball. It allows you to move on the basketball court while in possession of the basketball. All positions require the need to become efficient at it. In order to dribble effectively, dribble with your fingertips and the pads of your hands. Using your fingertips gives you more control over the basketball. Get used to bouncing the ball hard off the ground. Dribble on the side of your body, and never bounce the ball in front repeatedly. Dribbling on the side minimizes the possibility of getting your ball stolen. Also, keep your body between yourself and the basket as you dribble.

Fourth, take the initiative and get in touch with college basketball recruiters. You can even invite them to some of your basketball games so that they can see your skill level for themselves. If you did not make the team immediately, go to open try outs and walk on to the college games.

These are the steps on how to play college basketball.
