By: power of DC This event is big. It attracts a lot of media attention. In the passed we have had the Discovery Channel, Planet Green, CNN, the Speed Channel, the local NBC affiliate and newspaper and ABC News, as well as, Agence France-Presse from Europe. On Friday evening June 4th there will be an EV Display at the Comfort Suites in Hagerstown. We expect quite a few Teslas there as well as many other hot EVs. On Saturday June 5th will be the AutoCross set up at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown by the Washington DC Chapter of the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America). Racing will cost $25.00. spectators can view the event for free. Followed by a special dinner and reception at the Golden Coral right behind the AutoCross course at the Valley Mall. SUNDAY!! SUNDAY!! SUNDAY!! Yes, on Sunday June 6th at high noon will be the NEDRA Drag Racing at Mason Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown. Racing will cost $25.00. There is a $10.00 fee for spectators. Feel free to hang out with us in the pits. Be on the lookout for dragsters and hot EVs blistering across the drag strip at over 100 mph in the 1/4 mile. There are plenty of discount rooms left at the Comfort Suites on Dual Highway. Call them at (301) 791-8100 and mention "Power of DC" for a discount. If you think that going green in transportation is like doing acupuncture or tasting nasty medicine, well you’re wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. You are sooooo wrong. If you think by going green with an electric vehicle you can say good-bye to tinkering in your garage with your hot rod, you are wrong again. I bet you didn’t think you would be happy about being wrong about anything. Let me tell you, you’re going to be happy about being wrong about this. For the last 9 years the Electric Vehicle Association of Washington, DC, together with the National Electric Drag Racing Association have been putting together a show in Hagerstown, Maryland of what electric gear heads and university engineering departments can put together in their garages. In the past we have had Brigham Young University’s ultra-capacitor powered EV1, West Virginia University’s Electric Lightning Formula car, Shawn Lawless’s Orange Juice dragster and much more. There is no way to describe the event. One of the vehicles had 8 powered wheels in the back. It’s like mad science meets speed obsessed automotive engineering. You just have to come out and see it to understand. The event combines two days of intense electric vehicle racing, which includes an autocross event which will be held this time on Saturday June 5, 2010, followed by drag racing at the Mason-Dixon Dragway on Sunday June 6. The autocross is set up, monitored and sanctioned by the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America), while the drag race is sanctioned by NEDRA (National Electric Drag Racing Association) Affectionately called PoDC by the EV community the Power of DC has become a premier racing event garnering national and international attention. In 2005 the Discovery Channel of Canada did a long segment on the event. In 2008 Planet Green Discovery Channel’s G Word show devoted an entire segment to the Power of DC as well as put the event in small pieces in various other programs. Check out the segment at the link here http://www.youtube.com/ The media attention has been building every year and this June’s event is set to attract the most attention ever. This year, some of the most famous racers from across the country will be at the race. Famous names like Shawn Lawless and Jeff Disinger will be there. Jeff Disinger’s Predator drag bike has been putting down times in practice runs faster than those of Bill Bube’s Killacycle, and would have probably set a record at the last Power of DC if he hadn’t blown a motor a few days before the race. That’s drag racing for you. Another reason why the Power of DC #10 will be the biggest and best EV racing event ever is that competition among university engineering departments has been heating up as of late. West Virginia, James Madison and Brigham Young Universities have all brought vehicles in the past and James Madison and Brigham Young both went home with NEDRA world records. I am sure that the students and professors are all itching to be at the event again. OK. So you can see that this event is big and getting bigger and you can see that it attracts a lot of attention. This creates a problem for us because big events like this one cost money to run, but it also represents an opportunity for organizations looking to get attention that an event like this generates. You can share in the attention that we get by becoming a sponsor. Becoming a sponsor of the Power of DC is easy.
