March 28, 2010 - PRLog -- The La Scala Studios short story competition is split into four sections, one of which is for stories with a racing theme.  The prize in this section is a VIP day out for the winner and up to three guests.  Stories must be no longer than 2000 words. Deadline for entry is 15 May.

The winner of the VIP racing day out may choose any of the following racecourses – Doncaster, Folkestone, Lingfield Park, Royal Windsor, Southwell, Worcester or Wolverhampton on a date of their choice*.  The prize includes a 3-course lunch or dinner with a bottle of champagne in one of Arena's premiere viewing restaurants, with a table for the day, racecards, premiere badges and car parking. The winner’s party will also be offered a visit to the paddock with a racecourse executive and a mini behind the scenes tour of the weighing room and pre-parade room where they might get to chat with the jockeys.

Continuing the racing theme, a day out at Beverley racecourse is one of the prizes in the competition’s Yorkshire residents’ section.

In addition, the competition has an open section with cash prizes, and a Pony Club section with equestrian prizes.

Competition judge for other than the racing section is award winning Yorkshire-based crime writer, Penny Grubb.  Another award winning author and writing coach, Linda Acaster, is offering discounted critiques to entrants.

Competition organiser, Pippa Ireland, has arranged free day passes for all 30 competition winners to the European Pony Championships in July where there will be an official prize-giving and a chance to meet the competition judges and sponsors.
