Oro Valley Community Foundation to Raise $750,000 for K-12 School Technology

Organization Announces Capital Campaign to Benefit Amphitheater Unified School District

March 25, 2010 - PRLog -- The Oro Valley Community Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving and sustaining the quality of life for citizens of Tucson and Oro Valley, unveiled a capital campaign to replace outdated computers in the Amphitheater Unified School District.

In partnership with associations affiliated with the school district, such as the Amphitheater Governing Board and Amphitheater Foundation, the group plans to raise $750,000 to update technology in classrooms and supply teachers with training on new software platforms. The Oro Valley Community Foundation’s board has supplied nearly $20,000 to begin the effort.

“As the Arizona legislature continues to slash funding for students in public schools and capital overrides are turned down, it’s further proof that it’s up to the community to ensure our schools provide excellent educational opportunities,” said Richard Eggerding, president of the Oro Valley Community Foundation.

At a press conference held earlier today, Eggerding encouraged businesses and community members to participate in the capital campaign.

“We do need your help,” he said. “A donation as small as $50 can ensure Amphitheater’s staff can equip our children in Tucson and Oro Valley with the technology and tools to be successful in life.”

Findings from Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, an economic development agency in Tucson, support Eggerding’s claims: TREO’s strategic analysis reports found that regional growth will falter if cities and towns in Pima County cannot produce a highly trained workforce.

“College degrees and career fields will require paramount skills, abilities and knowledge,” said Ben Wichers, president of the Amphitheater Foundation. “We’re glad that the Oro Valley Community Foundation has partnered with us on this effort, in order to benefit our district and the Tucson region as a whole.”
