March 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Trouble conceiving seems to be a problem that is much more prevalent today than it was in years past. It may also be that more women and men are willing to talk about it now that there are medical options available to them. Some women do all the right things and yet still have trouble conceiving. Sometimes the problem may lie with the woman and sometimes the problem can be the husband. Doctors are not able to offer many different options to patients complaining of infertility.

The number one reason for not conceiving is having unrealistic expectations. Some couples start to worry after a couple of months trying to conceive, when in reality it can take six months or longer. If you have only been trying for a few months, then relax and keep on trying.

For women who have been trying for an extended period, with no results, the reasons can be numerous. Doctors will often look at the husband first, and any problems that may be occurring with him, before delving into the wife's physical history. As many as 30% of men may be infertile, while others may simply have low sperm counts that are affecting the couple’s chances of conceiving.

A woman may have trouble conceiving for a number of different reasons. One of the most common is fallopian tubes that are blocked. Some women simply have irregular ovulation and this causes a problem at the right time of the month. Another common problem with conceiving is too much tension and stress when the couple starts to worry about why they are not conceiving. Often doctors will tell the husband and wife to just relax and wait, and quite often this prescription works. Many couples who have given up on conceiving and have adopted find themselves pregnant within a few months of the new arrival.

Women who have weight problems often have problems getting pregnant. Whether over-weight or under-weight the chances diminish with every pound. Diet can also play a role in infertility, and women who are significantly underweight can be plagued with the problem of no menstrual cycles. Being over-weight or under-weight can have a significant effect on your body’s hormone levels. If these levels have been affected by diet and body weight it can make getting pregnant very difficult.

Some women suffer with polycystic ovaries and this will definitely affect their ability to conceive. Some do not even realize they have the condition until checked by a doctor. With the help of a knowledgeable doctor these women can do a number of different things to help boost their chances of becoming pregnant. This is actually the most common problem for being unable to conceive for women who are in the 20 to 40 year old age bracket.

Endometriosis is a common disease that affects many women making it hard for them to conceive. Endometrial tissue can break away and travel to areas such as the pelvis, fallopian tubes and ovaries. Women who suffer with this condition normally conceive at much lower rates and if pregnant they are far more susceptible to miscarriage. With a doctor’s help this condition can be controlled and many options are available to help with conception.

The above are some of the more common reasons for infertility. There can be any number of other reasons, but they are usually very rare. The good news is that with the help of a doctor and new medical discoveries, these conditions can be treated and a successful pregnancy may occur.
