March 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Alteryx, the developer of the world’s fastest and most robust Geographic Business Intelligence® technology platform, is teaming up with select North American universities to drive the power of spatial analytics and data management solutions into university course curricula to facilitate and encourage collaboration between industry and academia.

“University geography departments have advanced GIS learning and application for years,” said Alteryx CEO and President Dean Stoecker. “But today, spatial intelligence has evolved to inform nearly every industrial category and field of study. As part of this paradigm shift, the Alteryx mission is to move academia beyond the traditional GIS tools and instill spatial intelligence into multiple disciplines, inspiring the technologists and business leaders of the future.”

The University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Northern Texas, the University of Southern California, Penn State University and Ryerson University have already completed applications for the program, which was launched January 19th, and will eventually include 15 institutions. Each will receive free Alteryx software licenses, technical support, internships, scholarships and jobs programs to forward collaborative learning channels between departments, schools and industry partners. The total grant value for each of the 15 founding universities of the program is expected to exceed $150,000.

“The ability to integrate many disparate data sources, both spatial and non-spatial, and the logical visual flow and graphic interface that allows for customization of applications and modules, are the unique elements that position Alteryx as a definitive teaching tool,” said Lew-Jean King, spatial BI consultant and educator with the State University of New York College at Buffalo. “This program will fast-forward the careers of the next generation’s business leaders and problem solvers, and help set corporate IT standards for the future.”

By moving students and educators from a map-driven discipline to a more holistic workflow environment, the Alteryx program is designed to advance cognitive learning around spatial data and analytics and then apply it into every industry, from manufacturing, retail, restaurants, banking and marketing to healthcare, insurance, government policy and transportation.

“Alteryx, in a university environment, will help further skill sets and provide industry with a more spatially capable graduate pool,” said Dr. Wayne Geary, Senior Vice President of Location Intelligence for Jones Lang LaSalle, one of the world’s largest real estate services firms and an Alteryx customer.

The program’s long-term goal is to establish application and module exchanges where students, professors and industry professionals can develop and share new solutions, and new ways to solve business problems and societal challenges.

“By delivering the promise of geospatial intelligence into these leading universities, the Alteryx Educational Grant Program can help define the future and best practices for teaching, technology transfer and commercialization,” said Stoecker.

“Using Alteryx within today’s higher education curriculum will promote a more efficient, comprehensive thought process and produce graduates who are better prepared to contribute within the spatial and business intelligence sector,” said Andy Moncla, Alteryx customer and Geo-demographer with VF Corp., one of the nation’s largest retail companies.
