Our theme “Teenage Pregnancy, AIDS &Diabetes Prevention – A Choice and a issue!” This event will help lead us down the road to encourage Black people to shift the paradigm from occasionally thinking about teenage pregnancy and HIV to always thinking about it. This is our year to make changes even more real for Black America! Let’s mobilize and do something that will be long-lasting in the fight against Teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and Diabetes! In recognition of Teenage Pregnancy, AIDS, & Diabetes Awareness Day (June 19, 2010), we are providing this event as a terrific avenue for community leaders and activists to gain knowledge and skills around spreading the word about HIV/AIDS. It also teaches the importance of getting educated, tested, treated and involved. What is TAD? Teenage Pregnancy, AIDS & Diabetes Awareness Day is a event to make communities aware of Teen Pregnancy, AIDS and Diabetes .This day is designed to increase the awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment among Blacks in the United States. The movement has four main objectives that it hopes to realize within Black communities: Education: To distribute information about Teenage Pregnancy, HIV/AIDS & Diabetes locally. Testing: Establish June as an annual day to get an Diabetes and HIV test. Involvement: Treatment: For those testing HIV+, any type Diabetes to get them aware of treatment services and information. When is it recognized? June 19, 2010 Why is there a need? (Teenage Pregnancy) The teen pregnancy rate in the U.S. is twice that of any other industrialized nation. # Teens are often less able to care for their children. # Pregnancy for teens is more dangerous and traumatic. # Many teen pregnancies end in abortions. # Teen birth adds directly to population growth by reducing the time between generations. # Most importantly, almost all teen pregnancies are unintended. (HIV/AIDS) • In 2007, HIV was the fourth leading cause of death for Black men and third leading cause of death for Black women, ages 25-44. • In 2006, both Black men and women had the highest HIV death rates per 100,000 men and women respectively, ages 25-34 and 35-44. • Blacks represent approximately 13% of the United States population, but almost half of the AIDS cases. • HIV is 100% preventable! (Diabetes) * 24 million children and adults in the United States live with diabetes * 57 million Americans are at risk for type 2 diabetes * 1 out of every 3 children born today will face a future with diabetes if current trends continue. Who Are the Organizers? TAD is directed, planned and strategically overseen by organizations/ possible. Sponsors donations will help to create opportunities to improve lives through education, jobs, and teaching self-sufficiency.We have been traveling to select cities across the country to deliver acts of kindness and support to individuals and communities. From coast to coast, people have joined the cause by helping neighbors, friends and strangers in need – proving that small acts of kindness can create a large impact. Donations are generally distributed through school programs because parents living in poverty will often send their children to school for a free meal, rather than keep them home to work. Many of those we helped were able to get back on their feet and start their lives a new. End
