Traditionally-manufactured wooden furniture is mainly comprised of varying types of slow-growing hardwood or softwood (oak, ash, pine, etc.), laminated together into large sheets, then often covered with veneer to create a uniform appearance.  This process creates a great deal of waste and it can take 30-40 years to regrow to the harvested trees.

Bamboo, by contrast, is one of nature’s most versatile and fastest growing plants, reaching maturity in five years or less.  While technically a grass, bamboo is significantly harder than any hardwood (it is more than 20% harder than oak), making it ideal for furniture applications.  As well, bamboo features one of the highest carbon-sequestering capabilities of any plant on earth, releasing 35% more oxygen than comparable hardwood trees and helping to reduce carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere.
