Dreams Palm Beach, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic - stomach bug hits holidaymakers

March 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Reports of a stomach bug outbreak with symptoms consistent with food poisoning at the Dreams Palm Beach, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

This popular all-incluisive resort boasts 500 rooms but over the past few weeks concerns have been raised over standards of hygiene and food.  Some reports put the number having been ill in resort as high as 75%.

Guests complain of symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting, some having to be placed on drips due to dehydration.  It is reported that one guest was disagnosed with amoebic dysentery (which is transmitted through contaminated foood / water).

The hotel did call in the Ministry of Health to perform Health & Safety Inspections  to attempt to trace the cause of the illness.

"Anyone returning from this resort that has been affected should consult their own GP as soon as possible to confirm exactly what their illness was and then seek legal advice regarding possible compensation.  If they can prove that their sickness was caused by poor standards of hygiene / food preparation at their accommodation, they could pursue a claim against the Tour Operator" he commented. "Holidaymakers should keep any evidence of illness such as medication receipts / invoices for treatment and ensure that the hotel / holiday representative is made aware of the illness."
