March 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Cincinnati, OH – A retired British ocean liner that was pressed into service as a troopship during World War II will be the scene of a civilian recruitment event for United States military veterans and military spouses on Thursday, April 22. RecruitMilitary, a military-to-civilian recruiting firm, will present a free employment, entrepreneurship, and education event for job seekers with military backgrounds aboard The Queen Mary—now a hotel in Long Beach, California. This event, a Veteran Opportunity Expo, will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. RecruitMilitary is inviting veterans who already have civilian work experience, men and women who are transitioning from active duty to civilian life, members of the National Guard and reserves, military spouses, and other military family members.

The Queen Mary (http://www.queenmary.com) made her maiden voyage in 1936. That year and again in 1938, she won the Blue Riband, an award for the fastest trans-Atlantic crossing—and she held the award until 1952. In1940, she was fitted as a troopship in Sydney, Australia. During World War II, the vessel carried troops from Australia, New Zealand, and the United States to the United Kingdom. After the war, she was refitted for passenger service. The Queen Mary was retired in 1967.

The Veteran Opportunity Expo aboard The Queen Mary will be the 25th of 73 such events scheduled for 2010. A vast array of veteran-friendly organizations will conduct one-on-one interviews with the job seekers. Those organizations will include corporate employers, law-enforcement agencies and other government employers, franchisors, educational institutions, veterans service agencies, and veterans associations. Already scheduled to attend are Argosy University/Denver, Arizona Public Service Company, California Department of Veterans Affairs, Capella University, Coca-Cola, Corinthian Colleges, Inc., Defense Contract Management Agency, DeVry University, Eaton Corporation, Heald College, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Military Sealift Command, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), the National Veterans Employment Program (NVEP) of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, New York Film Academy, The Art Institutes, and UEI College.

RecruitMilitary has produced Opportunity Expos since 2006. More than 1,675 organizations attended 215 RecruitMilitary events from 2007 through 2009. Those Expos generated television coverage by ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and FOX affiliates as well as local independent channels; articles in major metropolitan and local newspapers; and extensive radio coverage, including remote live broadcasts from events.

RecruitMilitary (www2.recruitmilitary.com) will produce the event aboard The Queen Mary in cooperation with The American Legion; Purple Heart Services; HireVetsFirst, a unit of the United States Department of Labor; and the Military Spouse Corporate Career Network (MSCCN).
