After 28 Years Platterpus Records, Hadley, MA, Set To Close

March 17, 2010 - PRLog -- "It's time". That's how owner Dave Witthaus justified closing Platterpus Records after 28 years. "It's been a great run, but it's time to move on".

Platterpus was founded in 1982 in Westfield, MA. In 2007, Witthaus move the business to the Hampshire Mall in Hadley, MA, and changed the business model from one of a pure music store to more of a "lifestyle" store. The move was by and large  a success, but Witthaus felt that signing a new lease was not something he wanted to do.

"I've gotten older and my customers are getting younger. I just couldn't commit myself to a new lease. Some of my passion for the store is gone." Witthaus hopes to use his experience to help others. "I still have a huge passion for small business and hope in some way to spend my next 28 years helping others create and run their own small business".

Witthaus continued, "I was extremely lucky to have spent 26 of my 28 years in Westfield, Massachusetts. The city and the people there are incredible. The support I received was unbelievable. For the past two and a half years, the people of Hadley have welcomed and supported me. It's been an amazing 28 years".

Platterpus Records will be starting its "Liquidation Sale" on Friday, March 19. It will run through March 30.

In an e-mail to customers, Witthaus wrote, "There's still A LOT of stuff here at the store. It would look awful in my living room, so I'm going to do whatever I can to sell it. There will be some great deals."

Beside product, store fixtures and equipment will also be for sale.
