March 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Welsh singer songwriter Al Lewis will be performing the at the Glynn Vivian this Friday 19 March, as the Art Gallery continues with its series of live music events in the Free:30 Sessions.

Al Lewis, originally from North Wales, is the latest among the emerging Welsh artists, performers and musicians to take the opportunity to perform at the venue on Alexandra Road.

He has kindly agreed to step up and perform after previously billed musician, Jonathan Powell, was unable to make it due to recording commitments, working with Charlotte Church on her new album.

Al Lewis started his musical career as a Welsh language singer and in 2009 had a number one selling album in the Welsh language charts.

He now shares his time between gigs in London and Cardiff and writes in both English and Welsh. This is his first performance in Swansea.

Interpretation Officer for the Glynn Vivian, Gordon Dalton said, “The stunning setting and the fantastic acoustics of the Gallery will complement Al Lewis’s beautiful folk inspired, catchy melodies and should be a real treat for all come along.“ The performance starts at 3.30pm.

The Gallery continues to bring a high standard of Welsh artists to Swansea with previous acts including Cate le Bon and Barefoot Dance of the Sea.

Beth Gibson of Barefoot Dance said, “We really enjoyed playing at the Glynn Vivian and would love to come again if anything comes up.”

New events are now being planned for the summer and will include multi award winning author Niall Griffiths talking about his work on April 16.

For full information on all the events go to http://www.swansea.gov.uk/glynnvivian or call the Gallery on 01792 516900.

All activities and exhibitions at the Gallery are free.
