Anna Friel Fights Wrinkles with Polaris Laser

Star says she wouldn’t do Botox, doesn’t rule out surgery in the future By: Elena Gorgan, Life & Style Editor Softpedia

March 15, 2010 - PRLog -- British actress Anna Friel says she would never get Botox injections to smooth away wrinkles and improve her appearance for fear she might lose her facial mobility, without which an actor is rendered useless. However, the 33-year-old star does have an ace up her sleeve in terms of fighting signs of old age, and that’s the Polaris Laser treatment, as she reveals for the latest issue of InStyle magazine.

Friel admits that pressure to look good is huge in the industry and that women are those who are mostly subject to it. Still, having Botox injections is not an option actors should consider because it can end up costing them too dearly. An actor depends on his ability to render emotion, and it can be hindered by the paralysis of facial muscles, which is how Botox actually eliminates wrinkles.

“I do have something called Polaris. It’s like a laser machine that brings collagen to the surface and reconditions the skin. You can see an immediate difference. It’s the best thing around,” Friel says. As for cosmetic surgery, that could be a possibility in the future, the actress explains. “I’m not going to say I wouldn’t have anything done because I’d be a liar. I’m sure I’ll be one of those people who has bits of tweaking. I haven’t done Botox because I’m scared that I won’t be able to move my face,” the star adds for the magazine.

The Polaris Laser treatment is a non-invasive, bloodless procedure that combines laser with radio-frequency energy to tighten the skin and, as Friel says, encourage it to produce more collagen, thus maintaining a younger appearance. Because it can be done in a matter of an hour or so and allows the patient to walk out afterwards, it is considered a very strong rival of Botox. The recovery period is also very short, while the entire treatment can be controlled by means of a computer.

“It is non-invasive. There are no incisions and no tissue damage. A level of control can be achieved that is difficult with other treatments. There is no bleeding or bruising and the risk of scarring is minimal. It utilizes three different forms of energy to reach multiple skin problems. Improvement of wrinkles, sagging and color can be expected. There may be areas of slight swelling or redness that resolves over a few days. Make-up may be applied immediately. You may resume all normal activities immediately. The full effect of your treatment develops over a few months following the procedure and can be expected to last for several months or years. As with any cosmetic procedure, the results can be expected to fade gradually over time, at which time the procedure can be repeated if desired,” the Ailesbury Clinic in Dublin says of the procedure on the official website.
