Vedanta’s Mega Health Camp at Jharsuguda Railway Station scripts Success.

March 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Jharsuguda 14th March 2010: In a unique initiative to provide Treatment and Medical attention to the unorganized sector who are socially challenged, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme a day long Mega Health Camp was organized by Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) today here at Railway Station Premises, Jharsuguda. The camp was aimed at treating and providing medical attention to the Railway porters, hawkers, petty vendors, rickshaw pullers, auto drivers, cobblers, destitute etc. dwelling and working in the Railway station and adjoining areas besides an open invitation to all residents of town area and peripheral villages. The camp was organized in partnership with Medical Services of Chakradharpur Division SE Railway, CDMO Jharsuguda, Red Cross Society of Jharsuguda and VSS Medical College Burla. Over 18 Medical Specialists Doctors from Medicine, Skin, Dental, Eye, Orthopedics, ENT, Pediatrics, Chest Diseases, and Surgery and resident Doctors of Vedanta Aluminium Ltd attended the camp. Over Thousand patients were given free treatment and medicines. Many Octogenarians, Women with children, waiting passengers and travelers, handicapped villagers with help of their relatives and others came to seek the medical assistance and check-up. The sheer number of patients who turned up during the day was unprecedented in Jharsuguda before, in any Health Camp.  

Shri. Masterji, a railway porter inaugurated the camp amidst loud cheer and clapping of passengers, porters, hawkers and volunteers who were present.  

Present during the Day Mr. Abhijit Pati, COO VAL said, “This is for the first time in Jharsuguda that we are conducting a mega health camp specifically targeting the most neglected and downtrodden masses of the town area. It is what we give back to our society that matters to us. We have resolved to conduct such Camps for the benefit of our community and everywhere we have got huge success in meeting the expectations of the people. The sense of ownership that people from the community show during such camps by facilitating, participating and benefiting out of this is tremendous. We intend to take this relationship forward with more vigor in future.”

Mr. J.K Das, Station Manager, Jharsuguda SE Rly lauded the initiative of Vedanta and said,” Other corporate must emulate such activities that benefit the people. The porters, hawkers, petty vendors etc are part of our society but their contribution always goes unnoticed. Vedanta’s effort to meet their health needs is always praiseworthy and a rightful tribute to them.”

Mr. Arjun More, Secy Sr. Citizen Forum Jharsuguda, Mr. Zamil Khan, Mr. Sandeep Awashi, Mr. Shivanand Mohanty Head PRO VAL, together with over 50 Town and Railway Volunteers, Vedanta CSR and Administration team and other Senior Vedanta Officials were present during the day.

The camp was coordinated by Dr. Dr. K.K. Saran and Dr Tribikram Patnaik of VAL.
