The Preeminent Documentary on the Subject of Illegal Street Racing

This feature length film analyzes both the history of Street Racing and the modern day nuances of the underground culture as well.  Going back to the 1950’s, an attempt is made to uncover street racing’s origins, motivations, and ultimate manifestation around the world.  While principally focused on the Street Racing that occurs in Southern California, the principles and ideas presented in the film are relatively universal and globally applied.

Featuring many prominent automotive names from the automotive world including: Both the first and current Editors of Hot Rod Magazine (Wally Parks and David Freiburger respectively), Street Racers, Professional Drag Racers, Law Enforcement, and Spectators alike.  Many concepts are explored in this film which have never been formally discussed or argued in any other medium to date.

Some concepts explored in the film include:

How does Universal Pictures’ “Fast and Furious” franchise affect the levels of street racing – is there a correlation between the two?

How does the general news media picture the activity?

What laws have been made to combat the activity?

Will street racing ever stop, and if so how do you stop it?

Does having a legal racing facility help to curb the illegal racing activity?

Do city/state governments help in combating the illegal racing by providing a viable legal alternative?

Has the NHRA (the sanctioning body of the legal version of street racing – drag racing) made full efforts in trying to eradicate street racing?

Have more tracks been opening up or shutting down in Southern California over the last 20 years, and what is the reason behind the trend?

What are the motivations of these street racers?

Does law enforcement tend to profile “typical street racers,” and is there such a thing as a typical street racer?

What is the auto manufacturer’s role in the street racing problem, if any?

Do track drag racing track lengths (1/8 mile vs. 1/4 mile) help to discourage illegal street racing?

In addition to discussing these very serious questions, another goal of the film is to entertain the audience without being overly subjective or taking sides. Unfortunately, as we all know, the popular media’s presentation of facts is usually poor, and so accurate portrayals of street racing are few and far between. We strived to create the most comprehensive, informative, and factual description of street racing to date.  We are confident there has never been a more objective look at the underground world of street racing than as in "1320 A West Coast Story."
