March 10, 2010 - PRLog -- CHANDLER, Ariz.  —    The final phase of the extensive $ 6.7 million renovation has started this week at the Chandler Center for the Arts.  Brignall Construction has started demolition of the current front entry plaza on Monday, March 8th to make way for a new architectural design.

The entry plaza, which faces Arizona Avenue, has shed its high concrete walls and built-in landscaping.   The new design plan will open the plaza to the front lawn, creating a more contemporary and inviting look.   New ramps will ensure that the entrance remains fully accessible. The renovation of the front plaza is anticipated to last between nine and 12 weeks, and represents $218,000 of the entire renovations budget. The $218,000 includes the design costs.

“The redesign of our entrance on Arizona Avenue will create a more welcoming environment that preserves the building’s classic design while offering a modern space for friends to meet before a show,” said Katrina Pappas, General Manager.

The redesign of the front entry plaza was originally recommended in 2007 by a Facility Review Study and has been supported by the Center’s Long Range Planning Committee.

Chandler Center for the Arts is preparing a large-scale celebration to officially mark the grand re-opening in fall of this year and showcase the scope of the renovations.

The first show that will make use of the renovated main stage for which tickets are on sale at the Center will happen this May, as Ballet Etudes brings their version of Cinderella  to the Center. The performance will combine the original score by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev with all new choreography.

“We are delighted to be finally nearing the end of the renovations and bring our Center back to full use,” added Pappas.

During this final phase of renovation, patrons are asked to utilize the South entrance for all needs including box office and administration inquiries. Handicap accessible entry is available on the North side of the building.
