March 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Mangelsdorf is not a newcomer to the Hall of Fame and the term Champion.  He was part of the inaugural class of Hall of Famers in San Diego.  In 2006, he was one of the original members recognized for his contribution to the sport in San Diego.

One of Jack’s biggest contributions? He is the man that brought the sport of lacrosse to the San Diego area.

Thirty years ago, Mangelsdorf, a local coach, commandeered a middle school P.E. class to show a 35mm film explaining the rules and skills of a strange game.

Students at Earl Warren Middle School watched as the teams ran across the screen dressed like football players, carrying funny sticks with nets at the end.

Before viewing the 10-minute promotional flick, titled “This is Lacrosse”, most of the students had never heard of the game.

Today, the movie and the coach, Jack Mangelsdorf, are etched in lore as initiating the birth of lacrosse in San Diego.  Since that day, Mangelsdorf has continued to create a legacy that produces great results.

His genuine love of the sport and his passion for teaching others has produced Championship Players. Mangelsdorf has positioned himself to be the “Go to Guy” when you want a lacrosse coach for your kids.

Over the years, Jack has worked with players and teams on the middle school and high school level.  Being able to coach kids when they are younger allows those players to gain skills and an understanding of the game that will carry them forward for years.  As the sport of lacrosse is growing, knowing there is a highly skilled, very affordable and easy to work with coach available in the area – many parents are turning to Mangelsdorf to lead their children on to become championship players.

Mangelsdorf can be found on the field, at the schools or at his Encinitas based store, Lacrosse Plus. This boutique lacrosse specialty store focuses on two things; top quality, affordable gear, and coaching through private lessons or clinics.

One player that benefited from the coaching of Mangelsdorf is the Dukes of Earl and Torrey Pines alumnus Jake Myers.  This past year, Myers went on to lead Cornell to the 2009 NCAA Finals against defending champions Syracuse.

With school, sport and athletics becoming more competitive than ever, San Diego parents understand the value that the years of experience and wisdom Mangelsdorf brings to the game.

Mangelsdorf is heading up his next round of coaching through the upcoming Middle School Tune-Up Tournament starting March 20-21, 2010.
