March 7, 2010 - PRLog -- It is that time of year. Days are getting longer with glorious sunshine, flowers are blooming, and spring is in the air. Pack up the family and head for the cottage and explore British Columbia’s beautiful Sunshine Coast.

What could define a family vacation on the Sunshine Coast more than sea kayaking in protected coastal waters, horseback riding in the Caren Range, fishing at the Chapman Creek Fish Hatchery and discovering nature & wildlife at the Iris Griffith Interpretive Centre? Stay in a cottage in the woods, a family suite or a family-friendly bed and breakfast on the ocean.  The Sunshine Coast offers more family fun than you can imagine!

Escape into the wilds of nature, and paddle the crystal clear waters of the Sunshine Coast in a fun, safe and educational environment.  Be sure to bring your camera as seals, bald eagles, great blue herons, and river otters abound!  No experience is necessary and the journey is guaranteed to be fun for all ages!

For an affordable family fun activity, be sure to visit Chapman Creek Fish Hatchery for a guided tour and kids fishing.  The education centre details the life cycle of salmon, and visitors can see the tiny fingerlings ready for release into Chapman Creek.

Snow can still be found up in the mountains where Dakota Ridge Winter Recreation Area is the place to be.  12km of groomed cross country ski trails, 7km of snowshoe trails, and large areas for tobogganing and sledding.  Shuttles and equipment rentals are available.

The Iris Griffith Interpretive Centre houses a collection of displays and exhibits characterizing human interaction with the natural environment.  It specializes in family friendly activities and guided nature walks. The centre is hosting water conservation workshops every weekend in March.

Hike Valentine Mountain for a breathtaking view of Georgia Strait, Savary Island, Powell River and the unique coastline.  Visit local art galleries and then take the Willingdon Beach Trail for a Forestry Interpretive walk along the shore.

No matter how you define your personal perfect getaway, the Sunshine Coast will exceed your expectations.  BC’s Sunshine Coast is a stunning 40 minute mini-cruise from West Vancouver’s Horseshoe Bay Terminal or a pleasant sail from Comox on Vancouver Island.  The coastal communities of Gibsons, Roberts Creek, Davis Bay, Sechelt, Halfmoon Bay, Pender Harbour, Egmont, Powell River and Lund welcome you to come and explore.

The Sunshine Coast Bed & Breakfast, Cottage Owners Association offers beautiful yet affordable accommodations for every taste; whether a stunning ocean view B&B or a cozy family cottage on the beach, our Sunshine Coast accommodations are sure to please.  Something for Everyone!
