March 6, 2010 - PRLog -- VIEWING THE WORLD WITH OPTI-MACY - A new sound for a new decade.

It has been a long wait between songs for Macy Gray fans. After a string of hits the Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter slipped into oblivion after what she describes as long, soul-numbing years as a cog within the music industry’s star-making factory.

Talking to KURV about her new album The Sellout, Macy says “The album tells the story of how I found my salvation in just being myself, instead of who other people thought I should be.”

Nobody was more surprised than Macy when her raspy growl attracted the attention of Atlantic Records. But her rocky road to fame began when the company decided not to release the album she recorded for them. To make matters worse she was in the middle of a marriage breakup and pregnant with her third child.

However, her demo tape continued to make the rounds, and she eventually signed a new record contract with Epic in April 1998. The next year was spent recording what was to become her debut album, On How Life Is. The single I Try proved to be an enormous hit, and On How Life Is suddenly sold like hotcakes, entering the Top Ten and going triple platinum by the end of 2000.

Rightly or wrongly Macy was developing a reputation for surreal public appearances and interviews, culminating in an incident in 2001 where she was booed for stumbling over the lyrics to the US national anthem. Since then the media has relentlessly played up the crazy side of her image and eventually it all got too much.

“I had got to a place in my career where I tried everything that was asked of me, and in doing so I lost sight of who Macy Gray really is.”

The performer’s first album in three years contains, she believes, some of the best songs she has written.

“I spent over a year making this album without any pressure or opinions and being able to choose the co-writers, producers and artists that felt good to me. As a result, it really reflects my true identity. I feel like I have finally made the album I was capable of and that my fans wanted.”

The record’s first single, Beauty in the World is described by Concord Records publicity machine as “irresistibly anthemic”.
After hearing the song we at Kurv certainly agree. The magazine’s Co-Publisher Tony Sage,  predicts great things for Macy in the year of the Tiger. "One thing’s for sure; Macy Gray is back with a vengeance", he says.

You be the judge, listen to The Sellout’s amazing first single: “Beauty In The World”!  @
