Dubh Linn Gate Embraces Paralympic Sport

March 4, 2010 - PRLog -- The Dubh Linn Gate, located in the Pan Pacific Mountainside, recently announced the creation of Whistler Adaptive Sports House for the Paralympic Games, which run March 12th to 21st, 2010.  All of the proceeds collected through the fundraising efforts during the Paralympic Games will be directed to the creation of the new Jeff Harbers Adaptive Sports Centre.

“We are so excited about the creation of Whistler Adaptive Sports House,” said Chelsey Walker, Whistler Adaptive Sports Program’s Executive Director.  “The Dubh Linn Gate has stepped up to not only create a fun Games-time “House” for our athletes, volunteers and supporters to gather, they have pledged to raise much needed funds and help create a major legacy for individuals with a disability in Whistler.”

“We are most pleased and honoured to be in partnership with Whistler Adaptive Sports Program and to have a role in debuting the Whistler Adaptive Sports House for the Paralympic Games,” commented Chris Marshall, Dubh Linn Gate Manager. “We are working hard to encourage our guests to take part in this momentous occasion as we raise funds to help support the new Jeff Harbers Adaptive Sports Centre.

The Dubh Linn Gate and Pan Pacific have been actively raising funds through the lead up to and during the Olympic Games.  To date, they have raised $2,300.  Their contribution adds to the community legacy being created for individuals with a disability in Whistler, which is being named for the co-founder and first President of the American Friends of Whistler. The Dubh Linn Gate and Pan Pacific join the American Friends of Whistler, Scotiabank, Andrew Tarret Architecture, Borden Ladner and Gervais, the Troutsmen Club of Leisure, First Canadian Development Corp., and the Whistler-Blackcomb Foundation in supporting the project.

“As a truly valued member of this community, Pan Pacific has always supported the efforts and achievements of the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program,” said Jim Douglas, General Manager of the Pan Pacific hotels in Whistler.  “Coming on the heels of the 2010 Winter Games, the Paralympic Games are an asset to our beautiful snow destination and any support we can lend to the combined efforts of the March games and to Whistler Adaptive Sports Program as well.”

About the new Jeff Harbers Adaptive Sport Centre at Whistler-Blackcomb
The proposed Jeff Harbers Adaptive Sports Centre at Whistler-Blackcomb is a two story, stand-alone building at mid-station on Whistler Mountain and will replace the current WASP Equipment Centre provided by the Rotary Club of Whistler in 2000.  It is an open, welcoming, accessible facility that would be used by the participants in the Whistler Adaptive Ski and Snowboard Program, as well as WASP’s Hiking and Para-Alpine Ski Racing programs.  The upper floor will be used for program services, while the lower floor would be used for additional storage and maintenance.  The plans for the new facility will allow for many more years of significant growth by the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program.
