John Rex Endowment Approves More Than $1 Million in New Community Grants

The John Rex Endowment announces eight new grants totaling more than $1 million. The grants include four positive youth development projects, three capacity building projects and one program expansion.

March 4, 2010 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, N.C. – The John Rex Endowment announces eight new grants totaling more than $1 million. The grants include four positive youth development projects, three capacity building projects and one program expansion.  

Nonprofits receiving grants are Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines, Haven House Services, Wake Teen Medical Services, Youth Empowered Solutions, Triangle Family Services, the YWCA of the Greater Triangle, WakeUP Wake County, and Wake County Human Services.  

Positive Youth Development
The John Rex Endowment supports positive youth development grant projects which include goals to improve settings that contribute to the healthy growth and development of youth through a positive youth development approach. The following positive youth development grants have been approved for funding:  

·         Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines - $38,500

·         Haven House Services - $301,505

·         Wake Teen Medical Services - $21,780

·         Youth Empowered Solutions - $359,150

Capacity Building
Support provided through the John Rex Endowment’s Capacity Building Initiative provides resources to enable agencies to focus on long-term solutions for strengthening and sustaining their capacity to address the health needs of underserved children and youth in Wake County. The following organizations will receive capacity building implementation or organizational assessment grants:    

·         Triangle Family Services - $7,315

·         The YWCA of the Greater Triangle - $5,000

·         WakeUP Wake County - $5,000

Expansion Grant
Expansion grants from the John Rex Endowment enable organizations to build on a previous grant project and take activities to a new level. Wake County Human Services Children’s Health and Development Program will receive a $304,627 expansion grant.  

The new grant awards were selected from proposals received in the winter of 2010.
