Fittingly, the unveiling, which will feature complimentary product tastings, will take place in downtown Sierra Madre at Savor the Flavor, a popular gourmet shop.

Hosting the event will be Karen Swisher, the noted food scientist and founder of Sierra Madre Grocery Company, whose 26-year career has been highlighted by the development of a vast variety of new food product concepts, including flavored tortillas, low-fat donuts, microwavable English muffins, salsas, seasoning blends and gourmet sauces. Her creations have been solicited and embraced by many of America's leading brands, including Carnation/Nestle, Lawry's Foods, Del Monte Frozen Foods, Jenny Craig and Van de Kamp's bakery products.

“After pursuing my passion for creative food development for nearly three decades on behalf of some of the industry's most respected brands, I am excited to have a collection of products that I can truly call my own,” Swisher stated. “My goal at Sierra Madre Grocery Company is to make quality our top priority by cooking in small batches with the best ingredients. Sierra Madre Grocery Company's initial product line features Roasted Garlic Olive Bruschetta Salsa, Black Bean and Corn Bruschetta Salsa and Sierra Seasoning. Upcoming introductions include Fruit and Fire Bruschetta Salsa with mango, peach, pineapple, garlic and cilantro; Caramelized Onions and Roasted Garlic Bruschetta; Herb & Olive Crisps; and Sweet & Savory Snack Mix.

Swisher's extensive experience began when she earned her bachelor's degree in food science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1983. She established Sierra Food Development Company in 1993, specializing in all-natural, organic, low-fat and wheat-free food products. In 1997, Swisher and her sister, Kirstin Pighin, launched Huntington Food Products, where she developed and patented the pan design, mix and process for low-fat donuts that were marketed under the Van de Kamp's label.
