March 1, 2010 - PRLog -- The first and only resource to help people with disabilities find discounts for thousands of services and products has launched at www.DisabledDiscounts.com. The comprehensive, user-friendly, and categorized website lists detailed information, county by county, on what discounts are available, eligibility, how to obtain the discounts, and more.

The website is the brainchild of David Squar, whose wife has multiple sclerosis.
Although David spent decades in the escrow real estate business, he was unaware that his wife’s disability made them eligible to receive a discount on their property taxes when they purchased a home.  It was then that he began thinking there must be thousands of disabled people and caregivers who are unaware of the many discounts available to them by city, county, and state governments and private companies.

After extensive research, David discovered the need for a single resource where people with a disability, and/or their caregivers, can easily locate discounts for which they qualify.  Additional research with business partner Sonny Fox yielded thousands of discounts that are available for a wide range of products and services.  At that point, the two decided to compile a state-by-state disability discount database, sorted by counties, and put it online.

“Although each state offers about 30-plus categories of discounts, very few are publicized,” David said.  “Additionally, while hundreds of private companies offer discounts for people with disabilities, trying to locate the discounts and finding the right person to speak with can be very difficult and extremely exhausting for someone with a disability. Most will just give up.”

Some typically unknown examples of discounts for the disabled include:
•   Property tax relief, as well as property improvement deductions
•   Federal and state income tax disability deductions
•   Financial assistance programs
•   Utility discounts
•   Reduced cost/free prescription medicines
•   Entertainment discounts especially on Broadway shows in Manhattan
•   Discounted legal assistance
•   Caregiver assistance including respite services
•   Companion pet and urgent veterinary care
•   Free telephone equipment

And the list goes on.

Each entry lists the discounts offered, and links to the resource’s home page as well as to the page where the user can find out how to obtain the discount.

DisabledDiscounts.com currently serves 20 states including California, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Main, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia and Vermont.  The site plans to extend to all 50 states in the next several months.  For the nominal fee of $25 per state annually, users get full access to the website.
