US 10K Classic Joins NROC
The US 10K Classic, Sept. 6 in Atlanta, joins the National Roller Cup, a series of inline skate races in North America.
The US 10K Classic (Sept. 6 in Atlanta) is a prestigious multi-sport event that draws top skaters, cyclists, runners and wheelchair athletes from all over America. It also raises money for children's charities.
"We are excited to be teaming up with NROC," said the 10K's inline coordinator, Charlie Bennett. "The US 10K Classic and NROC have the same goal for inline speed skating: to help it grow."
Among top skaters who have competed in the Classic over the years are Chad Hedrick (Olympic gold medalist), Julie (Brandt) Glass, Cheryl Ezzell, Tony Muse and Eddy Matzger.
Last year, Harry Vogel won the men's race; Zephaneah Akana, the women's.
The 17-year-old event is famous for its hilly racecourse, which organizers describe as "challenging yet memorable." It is recommended for experienced hill skaters who can finish a 10K within 25 minutes.
The 10 K Classic joins NROC as a Class A event.
The National Roller Cup is a series of inline skate races in North America for pro, advanced and youth skaters. So far, the 2010 schedule includes 19 events.
The series opens Saturday, Feb. 27, with Race on the Base, a 10K in Los Alamitos, CA. It ends on Sept. 25 with the New York 100K and Skate Marathon.
