The European Independent Film Festival 2010 (ÉCU 2010) Announces Opening Films

Eight films to kick off the 2010 festival on Friday the 12th of March, 2010.
 
Feb. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- The European Independent Film Festival (ÉCU), Europe’s premier event for independent cinema, is delighted to announce the films that will screen at the festival’s opening ceremony on Friday the 12th of March, 2010 at Cinéma Le Grand Action in Paris, France. The films are:

- ‘Curtains’ directed by Julian Barratt and Dan Jemmett (UK). A comedic look at sex, puppets and unfortunate deaths.

- ‘Ça Roule’ directed by Antoine Coutou and Jozsef Tari (France).  A woman has to face the sudden departure of the man she loves. Will she ever overcome her grief?

- ‘Trolley Boy’directed by Teemu Auersalo (Ireland). Trolley Boy tries to keep himself motivated in his isolated, unfulfilling urban job. Could there be more to his life than pushing shopping trolleys into stacks?"

- ‘Entwined’ directed by Reeve Rixon (Scotland). An elderly woman, becomes trapped in an old Victorian washing line. During the night she is forced to confront a bitter former lover, resentful friends and her family who are neglecting her in old age.

- ‘Konvex-T’ directed by Johan Lundh (Sweden).Axel lives in a nightmarish, strange, dystopian world – and then he develops an unpleasant boil on his buttock. One night the boil bursts and something strange crawls out. He shows the organism to his love interest, Agnes, who is mesmerized by it.

- ‘Café’ directed by Joao Fazenda and Alex Gozblau (Portugal).  A ritual of three decades that takes place in a café. A fortune-telling mother, a distant father and an excessively noisy family.

- ‘Lost Paradise’ directed by Mihal Brezis and Oded Binnun (France). A man and a woman tenderly make love in a one star hotel room. A moment later when they are both dressed, the idyll that seemed authentic is now gone. A modern look at the Adam and Eve tale.

- ‘Das Packet’ directed by Marco Gadge. (Germany). Two hardened gangsters, Klaus and Bernd have to supply again. One package. In this business, it is important that deliveries are made when they are expected. But, as the two realise, this is not always the case ....

These films demonstrate the diversity of cinematic style and talent that will be showcased at The European Independent Film Festival (ÉCU) over the weekend of the 12th, 13th and 14th of March 2010 at Cinéma Le Grand Action and Théâtre Le Triomphe in Paris.

ÉCU 2010 will screen 66 films from 27 countries as they compete for 22 awards including ‘Europe’s Best Independent Film’. The winners will be announced at the ÉCU 2010 Awards Ceremony on Sunday the 14th of March 2010 at 20:00.

In addition to the film screenings, festival attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an exciting array of professional filmmaking workshops and “Meet-the-Directors”. There is also a programme of live music showcases organised by festival partner Access Film-Music who has presented over one hundred exceptional recording artists during Film Festival Week in Park City, Utah, USA.

Since its inception five years ago, ÉCU has proved to be a discovery point for many of Europe’s talented independent filmmakers who are driven by the passion to make great cinema, but don’t benefit from large production budgets.

Invitation for the Press:

Press are invited to attend the opening press conference, aperitif and opening films on Friday 12th March at 18:00 at Cinéma Le Grand Action. Interviews with competing filmmakers will be facilitated. A live music showcase, organized by ÉCU’s official music partner Access-Film Music, will follow at 21:30 at the nearby bar, Les Quatre Vents (18, rue des Quatre Vents).
